On the occasion of the 80th Independence Day, on Thursday afternoon, November 23, 2023, students from the Department of History and International Relations at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Saint Joseph University (USJ) visited, accompanied by the Head of the Department, Dr. Christian Tuttle, and the Head of the Public Relations Division of the Internal Security Forces, Brigadier General Joseph Musallam, a number of members of the Internal Security Forces, where the tour began with a meeting with the Beirut Police Commander, Brigadier General Ahmed Abla. Dr. Tuttle began the meeting by conveying the greetings and appreciation of the University President, Father Professor Salim Dakkash, to Major General Othman. Then Brigadier General Abla explained to the students the major security tasks and responsibilities in the capital. By answering their questions. They then went to the operations room, the analysis room, and the monitoring and control room, and learned about the operation of the emergency number 112 and how to respond to citizens’ calls, the importance of forensic analysis to prevent the occurrence of crimes and quickly detect them, and the importance of the supervisory role played by the Beirut Police in maintaining security and pursuing criminals. They then moved to the Scientific Investigations Department in the Judicial Police Unit, and the officers, heads of the criminal laboratories, identity verification, central accidents, explosives, equipment, and supplies offices, explained to them the role of this department and how to detect crimes by adopting advanced scientific methods in removing evidence from crime scenes.
The tour was completed with a visit to the 1st Beirut Regional Model Company, where the company commander briefed them on the principles of community policing under which it operates, and explained to them these principles, which are based on cooperation and partnership with the local community with the aim of maintaining security and enhancing stability, based on the shared responsibility with the community to implement the vision of Strategic Internal Security Forces “Together…towards a safer society.”
At the conclusion of the visit, the students expressed their admiration for the scientific development achieved by the Internal Security Forces in several fields, and their pride in the professionalism of the officers and members, male and female, and the commitment and sacrifices they make in these difficult circumstances. They felt that there are professional people protecting them and watchful eyes looking after them. A national security institution has the right to have the support of people and society. We hope that this experience will be generalized to all universities in Lebanon, as it strengthens patriotism and belonging among Lebanese youth.
On 24-01-2026, the final match of the WAKO Professional World Kickboxing Championship was held at the Camille Chamoun Sports City Stadium in Beirut, attended by more than 3,000 spectators. Staff Sergeant Youssef Abboud, one of the non-commissioned officers of the Internal Security Forces, took part in the event, competing against Swiss opponent FLORAN QUAJAK, IFN World Kickboxing Champion. Staff Sergeant Abboud won the title and was crowned Professional World Champion, becoming the only Arab and Lebanese champion to have achieved the WAKO PRO, WBC, and ACS Europe belts in different weight categories. Throughout his career to date, he has recorded 74 victories, including 12 by knockout, مقابل 10 defeats. As part of strengthening communication between the local community and the Internal Security Forces within the concept of community policing, Major Mohammad Tofeili delivered an interactive seminar entitled “Enhancing Communication Between the Community and the Police and Building Trust.” The seminar was organized by the Municipality of Al-Qaa – Reading and Cultural Activation Center in the town. The seminar was held in the presence of the Mayor of Al-Qaa, lawyer Bashir Matar; the Director of Al-Qaa Official Secondary School, Mr. Michel Makhlouf; the Principal of Al-Qaa Official Intermediate School, Ms. Nadine Matar; and the Director of the Reading and Cultural Activation Center, Ms. Olga Al-Toum, in addition to a number of teachers and students. During the seminar, Major Tofeili addressed the importance of building trust and strengthening dialogue between the Internal Security Forces and the community, emphasizing the role of positive communication in reinforcing community partnership. The seminar featured an open discussion and notable participation from the students.

Based on the directives of the Director General of the Internal Security Forces, Major General Raed Abdallah, the Commander of the Regional Gendarmerie Unit, Brigadier General Jean Awwad, conducted an inspection tour of the border area in southern Lebanon, as well as a number of Internal Security Forces units in the said region. These included the Qana Police Station, Tebnine Serail, Bint Jbeil Serail, the Dibl checkpoint affiliated with the Rmeish Police Station, and the Meiss El Jabal Police Station. During his tour, Brigadier General Awwad met at the Qana Police Station with the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Ms. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, and the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Lebanon, Ms. Blerta Aliko. They reviewed the proposed designs for the construction of a model police station in Qana. Brigadier General Awwad was accompanied during his tour by the Commander of the Southern Region, Brigadier General Ahmad Abu Daher; the Commander of the Tyre Company, Colonel Georges Eid (within his area of responsibility); the Commander of the Nabatieh Company, Colonel Hassan Hammoud (within his area of responsibility); the Head of the Southern Investigation Unit, Colonel Tony Nahra; in addition to a number of officers and non-commissioned officers. Brigadier General Awwad also addressed the personnel, commending their efforts in serving citizens and the community despite the surrounding circumstances, whether security-related or economic. He further pledged to work on addressing the problems and obstacles they face and to resolve them as swiftly as possible. Additionally, Brigadier General Awwad and the accompanying delegation toured neighborhoods in the frontline towns and villages, including Meiss El Jabal, Adaisseh, Houla, Markaba, and Borj El Mlouk, where they assessed the destruction and the extent of damage inflicted on homes and livelihoods as a result of the recent Israeli aggression against Lebanon.
