General Inspectorate


The General Inspectorate of Internal Security Forces is linked to the Minister of Interior based on its organization law No. 17/1990 and in accordance with Articles (12, 13, 14 and 15) thereof. It exercises multiple tasks, including:

  1. Monitoring service in various Internal Security Forces units and ensuring its organization and implementation in accordance with the provisions of applicable laws and regulations.
  2. Investigating reports and complaints submitted by citizens regarding the actions of Internal Security Forces personnel after they are referred by the Minister of Interior.
  3. Checking the morale of Internal Security Forces personnel and proposing measures to improve the institution’s conditions and services.
  4. Submitting observations and suggestions to the Minister of Interior regarding the sins and errors that it verifies in the inspections and investigations it conducts in order to take the necessary penalties and measures regarding them, after they are referred to the General Directorate of Internal Security Forces by the Minister of Interior.
  5. The Inspectorate also monitors the respect of human rights by security forces personnel, through the Human Rights Department affiliated with it. This department is responsible for defining and deepening the awareness of security forces personnel of human rights by conducting studies, proposing amendments to laws and regulations, and providing guidance. The department also coordinates with associations and specialized units in the security forces.
  6. The Human Rights Department follows up on domestic violence cases to ensure that they are dealt with quickly and professionally by the Internal Security Forces. Domestic violence cases can be reported through the hotline 1744. The General Inspectorate then transfers the report to the Judicial Police and follows up on the progress of the investigation.
