The Internal Security Forces deny reports of a motorcyclist’s death and claims that he was pursued by a traffic officer.

The Directorate General of the Internal Security Forces – Public Relations Division issued the following statement: A video circulated on social media showing a motorcycle rider lying on the ground, surrounded by a group of people and an officer from the Internal Security Forces’ traffic units. The video was accompanied by claims that a traffic officer had pursued the motorcyclist and that the latter had died in the Corniche el-Mazraa area. Following verification, the Directorate General of the Internal Security Forces wishes to clarify the following: First: The incident occurred in Sidon, not in the Corniche el-Mazraa area of Beirut. Second: On 22 August 2026, while the Sidon Traffic Detachment was operating a checkpoint on Sidon’s main road, A. H. (born in 2002, Syrian national), who was riding a motorcycle, was caught by surprise upon seeing the checkpoint officers. He abruptly swerved at high speed and in a reckless manner, causing the motorcycle to skid and the rider to fall to the ground. He was given first aid and subsequently taken to hospital, from which he was discharged later that same day after receiving treatment. In this context, the Directorate General of the Internal Security Forces stresses the importance of complying with traffic laws in order to protect lives. It also urges citizens not to circulate information or news before verifying its accuracy and reiterates that public safety is everyone’s responsibility.
