Within four hours, the North Investigation Detachment seizes approximately 25,000 square metres of bird-extermination nets as part of the largest campaign to remove them.

Directorate General of the Internal Security Forces – Public Relations Division The following statement was issued: As part of the ongoing efforts undertaken by the Internal Security Forces to combat illegal hunting, particularly the use of bird-extermination nets installed along migration routes, which trap large numbers of birds and wipe out entire flocks, threatening some species with extinction and negatively affecting biodiversity, ecological balance, and natural resources. The North Investigation Detachment of the Regional Gendarmerie Unit received information that individuals were setting up nets to exterminate birds in preparation for selling them in several scattered villages across the Akkar Plain. In coordination with the Anti-Poaching Unit (APU), the MECSHAP Centre, and the international organization CABS, a patrol from the Detachment succeeded in locating the sites where these nets had been installed. Following this, patrols from the Detachment raided several agricultural properties, seizing approximately 165 bird-catching nets covering an estimated total area of 25,000 square metres, in addition to four bird-catching devices, a battery, three loudspeakers, and electrical wires used to operate them. As a result, the total area of nets removed in the operations carried out in the Bekaa and North Lebanon has risen to approximately 63,000 square metres. The seized items were handed over to the relevant unit pursuant to the instructions of the competent judicial authority.
