Issued by the General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces – Public Relations Division The following communiqué was issued: Pursuant to a decision by the Governor of Mount Lebanon aimed at removing violations and encroachments on public property (sidewalks and roads) that obstruct traffic, cause congestion, and pose a threat to public safety along the Old Saida Road and on the roads extending from Kfarshima Bridge to “Al Forno” bakeries in Khaldeh, a three-day campaign was carried out from 10-06-2026 to 12-06-2026. Between 10 and 12 June 2026, personnel from the Aley Company of the Regional Gendarmerie Unit, supported by members of the Mobile Forces Unit and the Choueifat Municipality, conducted an operation to remove these violations and encroachments on public property and to close institutions and businesses operating without legal authorization. Approximately 40 violations were removed. In this context, on 11-06-2026, while a patrol from the Choueifat Police Station was assisting the municipality in carrying out this mission, the following individual: N. J. (Lebanese), who falsely claims the status of a religious cleric [noting that, pursuant to a decision by the competent religious authorities, he has not officially held religious status for a long time] objected to the removal of a violation belonging to him. He proceeded to film the patrol officers with his mobile phone while they were carrying out their duties and later published videos on social media containing offensive remarks against members of the Internal Security Forces, official authorities, and the Commander of the Choueifat Police Station. He also made statements likely to incite sectarian tensions and attempted to portray the matter as a sectarian dispute. It was established that a violation report concerning his encroachment had already been issued on 22-12-2025 and remains under review before the competent judicial authorities. Further investigation revealed that when requested to present identification documents, he refused to do so. He then entered his premises, changed into clerical attire, and continued to challenge the legality of the measures being taken while directing provocative remarks toward the officers and the supervising officer in an attempt to embarrass him. The officer, however, dealt with him professionally and respectfully and proceeded with the removal of the violation. The investigation into this incident remains ongoing under the supervision of the competent judicial authority.
