Issued by the General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces – Public Relations Division,
the following statement:

At dawn on 28-02-2026, a child (F.I., born in 2020, Syrian) and his sister (R.I., born in 2017, Syrian) were admitted in critical condition to a hospital in the Hadath area. The girl soon passed away, and three days later, her brother also died. Following an examination by the forensic doctor, it was confirmed that both children had suffered a sudden lack of oxygen, and that the deaths were consistent with suffocation.

During the initial investigation, the children’s mother:

W.M. (born in 1996, Syrian)

stated that she was surprised by the children’s condition when she attempted to wake them for the pre-dawn meal (suhoor), as they did not respond or move. She said she contacted A.Kh. (born in 1996, Syrian), who helped her transport them to the hospital, which he confirmed in his statement.

Accordingly, the competent units of the Information Branch initiated the necessary procedures to uncover the circumstances of the deaths, especially following the forensic report, which raised suspicion that the mother had carried out the crime.

On 27-03-2026, W.M. was summoned for questioning. As the investigation progressed and she was confronted with evidence proving her involvement, she confessed to killing her two children by suffocating them with a pillow while they were on her bed at her home in the Sahra Choueifat area. She then left them in that condition for an hour before contacting someone for help. She added that she committed the act due to psychological pressures she had been experiencing.

The necessary legal measures were taken against her, and she was referred to the competent authority in accordance with the instructions of the judicial authority.
